The department was established in the year 1981 with two year Pre-Degree course. Since then, the department has been effectively serving students from the backward and less attended regions of Kollam district. Much sought after course like Bachelor of Commerce degree was introduced in the year 1995 and subsequently the Master’s Degree was started in the year1999.

The department is having well qualified and dedicated teachers and being the single largest department of the college with Post Graduate course and highest number of students for more than two decades, the department has been successful in upholding the true spirit and wisdom bestowed upon by Saint Sree Narayana Guru, the guiding light of all institutions under the SN trust.

The Vision and Mission of the department have been envisaged after internalizing the great teaching of Gurudev – “Attain heights by education; gain strength through organization.”
